“Rescuing Hi’ilani” – Natural Beauty of Hawaii – The Fauna Edition – PART 1

You can’t have a book set in Hawaii and not include some of the wild life… and no, I’m not talking about the hot military guys… okay, I wish I was, but here… some of the ANIMAL wildlife I’m including in the book.

The Mynah Bird (Mah-ee-nah)

The Mynah bird has a distinct waddle and a loud cawing sound that make it impossible to mistake… or ignore.

When I was little girl in Hula class we learned a song called “Sassy Little Mynah Bird”

Sassy little mynah bird,
with your funny walk.
My you are a noisy bird,
and how you like to talk, talk, talk.
Quiet down you sassy bird,
Won’t you fly away?
Shoo! Shoo! Mynah bird!
Kuli kuli e!

Kuli kuli e means “quiet” and it’s pronounced koo-lee koo-lee eh

If you’d like to hear the song, here’s a link for Youtube.
